In late 2019, Kerri Holland and Pam Drago approached engineer Arsen Gogeshvili to record their idea for a new single release project based on an aleatoric (‘throw of the dice’) approach to music. While each song’s ‘skeleton’ is written, large parts of the composition are left open to chance as a rotating collective of collaborators bring their own style and feel. The only instruction is to keep with the emotional integrity of the song. Each collaborator works individually - only in the studio are everyone’s parts revealed.
Embracing an atmospheric, pop-noir sound, their first single ‘Shipwreck’, released in January 2020, was immediately placed in rotation by local radio station KEXP. They put out two more songs that year, gaining radio support and fans. At the start of 2021, their fourth release ‘Afterlife’ was selected by DJ Cheryl Waters as KEXP Song of the Day which boosted their listenership even further both nationally and internationally. They continued the momentum of this success with their fifth release, ‘Gold Things’.
With the unexpected death in late 2021 of Gogeshvili who had been a core member from the start, Holland and Drago regrouped. Gogeshvili helped mold their sound, particularly in the digital realm. And now Holland and Drago are bringing it forward.
Partnering with local producer Don Gunn (Death Cab for Cutie, The Lonely Forest), Echo of the Low Light released the single - “Wild World Away” in September 2022 and “Valley” in March 2023.
